The day after the hurricane started as an Armed Security Officer and First Responder then promoted to operations supervisor. Provide a high-profile presence at assigned dialysis centers to prevent looting, loss and ensure the full protection of medical staff. Exercise sound judgment and maintained confidentiality at all times due to US Federal HIPPA patient confidentiality requirements. Operation lasted 17 days.

  • As a first responder protected Fresenius Medical Care dialysis centers from looting, theft, fire, and willful damage day after hurricane. Ensured the safety and security of medical staff and patients in addition to protecting medical facilities, facility generators, dialysis equipment, pharmaceutical supplies, and medicines.
  • Provided armed escort services for medical supplies, food, generators, and emergency fuel for dialysis center staff and their families. Provided armed personal protection escort services for local staff, relief staff, and corporate representatives.
  • Responsible for patrolling assigned dialysis centers, staging areas, and command center.
  • Responded to all emergency situations as directed by Fresenius policies.
  • Implemented flow chart and mapped system for tracking logistics and personnel.

The day before and during the hurricane provided disaster relief support to as special needs shelter for the City of Houston Disaster Preparedness Dept. The special needs shelter was setup for individuals and families with medical needs that were unable to evacuate the city before the hurricane made landfall.

  • Security for special needs shelter.
  • Escort services for patients with ambulatory issues.
  • Trained staffers in the use of disaster and medical equipment. Only a few emergency medical technicians were available with no onsite doctors or nurses. Trained staffers on the use of basic equipment such as folding cots, generators, MRE preparation and other procedures.
  • Morgue detail. Built makeshift morgue for patient who died at the shelter. Moved deceased from sleeping/living areas to morgue. Prepared paperwork and body for storage and transportation.
